VCT Burnishing Blowing Old Style Buffers Away
VCT (Vinyl Composite Tile) flooring can be quite appealing, not only for the many eye catching designs it can come in, but for several other reasons. These include it’s durability, ease of repair, low cost, and the simple maintenance to keep it looking good. To maintain a great looking VCT floor people either turn to commercial floor care companies, or they do it themselves. Daily sweeping, and mopping can be done easily enough by the owner. Waxing and scrubbing are also relatively easy. But commercial floor companies and people cleaning their VCT flooring themselves will both need a special tool for VCT burnishing.
In the past people would use a standard rotary floor machine to try to get a great shine on their commercial tile. These floor machines would generally operate around 175-350 rpm, and be a multifunctional tool used to polish, scrub, strip, sand, and perform a number of other functions depending on the attachments. But now special VCT burnishing machines are available which are custom built for burnishing alone, and at much higher speeds than the older floor machines. They can operate at speeds up to thousands of rpms, making burnishing a floor several times faster than with a standard floor machine. Here are some of the other benefits of using a burnisher.
Advantages Of Using A Burnisher
1. Shinier Floors
Burnishers can operate at such a high rate of speed that the finished result is unparalleled. Floors will be shinier, often appearing to have a glass-like polish.
2. Faster Speeds
Not only is this good for people doing their own cleaning, but for companies cleaning large floor areas as well. The time saved when cleaning large VCT flooring that you see in large stores also saves money for the company by decreasing the time worked, and can provide customers the pleasure of seeing sparkling clean floors each and every day.
3. Aesthetics
Obviously a good burnisher is going to make floors look incredibly clean. This makes the entire house, or store seem cleaner as well. A highly polished and clean floor can also create the illusion of making the rest of the area look much bigger than it really is. This can be especially useful for people with smaller homes or stores.
4. Safety
Safety is of great concern to both businesses and homeowners. A floor that is well burnished will not only be clean, but very safe as well. Burnishing will result in a slip-proof type quality to the VCT flooring, which will keep customers safe, as well as children or elderly family members in the house.
VCT flooring is one of the most popular flooring styles available today. This is largely due to the look they give a place, shiny, clean, and available in many different styles and designs. To insure that they stay looking as good as when first installed, a good burnisher will be needed and used on a regular schedule. They will keep the floors looking much cleaner, and in faster time than old style buffer machines.
VCT Burnishing To Put The Shine Back In Your Floor
VCT (Vinyl Composite Tile) flooring is a popular flooring used everywhere from the biggest stores, to the smallest home bathrooms and kitchens. VCT flooring is popular for a variety of reasons. It is generally inexpensive, extremely durable, and relatively easy to maintain. Even for reason this durable flooring is damaged it is very easy to replace the individual tiles. They can also look amazing, with different colors and designs offered.

To keep these floors looking great maintenance must be done regularly. This includes waxing, scrubbing and VCT burnishing. Some people turn to commercial floor care companies and services to do some of these things, and others are able to do this maintenance themselves, at least from time to time. If you have the equipment, and are looking to give your VCT flooring that glossy shine, you might try VCT burnishing it yourself. VCT burnishing will have your floor looking shiny and new, and can even give the illusion that the room is bigger and more spacious. Make sure you have a burnisher, and the appropriate burnishing floor pads, and follow these steps.
Steps To VCT Burnishing
1. Get that floor clean!
Make sure your floor is as clean as possible. Scrub it down. Remove as much dust and dirt as possible. Make sure you do it thoroughly, as this cleaning will directly affect the outcome of your VTC burnishing. By the time you are done cleaning the floor you want to be able to run your finger over any part of it, without a hint of dust or dirt to be found. It should go without saying that anything stuck to the floor should be removed during this cleaning. If anything is stuck it can cause a load of problems during the burnishing, as it may interfere with the floor pad.
2. Do Not Enter!
Don’t let all your hard work go to waste by allowing people to walk over the floor you’re planning to burnish. You just spent a good deal of time making sure the floor is spotless, and the last thing you want is someone walking through getting dirt on it, or gum, or all kinds of debris. If the floor is in your store or business make sure you clean it after hours, and if it’s in your home make sure to tell family members that the floor is off limits until you are finished.

3. And Start!
It’s burnishing time! Make sure your burnisher rotates at a minimum of 800 rpm, and that it is equipped with the pads that will work best on your floor, and get to work! For best results start on the sides of the floor, and make your way to the center. You’ll want about 6 inches of overlapping per area.
VCT flooring can be really beautiful to look at. To keep it looking great make sure you keep it cleaned and burnished, whether you have a commercial floor care handle it, or do it yourself.
